Sure, it doesn't include Rouffignac or anywhere else but that is because it is a large group tour. I can see on the Sarlat tourist office website that there is a tour offered to Lascaux IV starting from €20 per person: I know there are desperate people out there that will slash their tour prices right now but that is not the norm and I stand by my advice that says there is no way that a day long private tour/driver is going to work out to be anywhere near the same price as taking an organized group/bus tour. Now, um, well, I'm a member of those people in the tourist industry who have been taking a hit since March of 2020. There were no hard feelings taken rosemaryoz. It may be worth sending her an email to enquire. Her tours are excellent, but she does not drive them herself, and I'm not sure if she's been offering tours this season. In the past I have used and recommended Brit archeologist Christine Desdemaines. Their website shows a day tour from Sarlat, visiting Rouffignac and Lascaux IV, for 510 euros.

I have not used them personally, but there are reviews here on TA. And the daytrip is guaranteed to go ahead - not reliant on filling the group quota first.īut for a more formal tour setup, Larksong could try Orphorus Tours. And I do suspect they will come out at a similar price to an organised tour, with the benefit of a customised itinerary and more flexibility with time. But people on the ground (ie the hosts) should know who to recommend.

No hard feelings French_Mystique! I don't want to get anyone in trouble here by naming names, but there are a lot of people in the local tourism business at the moment who are willing to offer their services as a day driver (due to the terrible hit from covid over the past two seasons). But they did extensive pre-planning and were strictly focused on a very limited number of sites/attractions:īefore you make the leap and decide to visit the Dordogne without a rental car you should do a lot of planning and decide what you want to see and do there and how you'll get to/from the places you want to visit. Have you done the planning required to figure out how you'll explore that region without a car? It is possible to explore that region on a very limited basis without a car and you can check the following thread to see a trip report from someone who did visit the Dordogne without a car.

Not related to your question, but the Dordogne is one of the most difficult areas to explore in France without a rental car due to very limited and infrequent public transport options. You can also google "tours to prehistoric caves near sarlat" and you'll get several results. If you can't find tours that you want on their website then you can call or email the tourist office and ask for assistance. You can check the Sarlat tourist office website to see if such tours are offered:
